Personal

The personal side of the work is mostly old folders, half-finished notes and family papers that nobody asked me to touch. I keep going back to them because the questions are still open. Spelling changes, a property turns up under two names, a letter and an inventory disagree. That is where I read slowest.

Auckland is the desk. The material is mostly Caribbean. I work in long, quiet sessions and try not to round the corners.
